McConaughey as Magnum?

Blonde-haired Matthew McConaughey with a moustache, fit out with shorts and a Hawaiian tee, driving a Ferrari down a palm tree-lined avenue. Is that a close enough approximation of Magnum P.I. for you? It might have to do. It’s been a while since we heard what was happening with the feature film remake of Magnum P.I., but according to the UK’s Teletext, writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball) has finished his latest draft for the film and named McConaughey as his choice to play the suave Hawaiian detective. I liked this show as a kid.  The location, the character of an ex-Navy SEAL from Vietnam who went private eye. It all worked.  Not sure if I like the Matthew McConaughey thing, though.  Don’t get me wrong, I really like Mac in Reign of Fire.  Just not sure he’s worthy to take on Magnum.  Check out the article to see who they have for Rick, T.C. and Higgins!  It might blow your mind. 

Next Superman Has More Baddies?

The sequel to Superman Returns will feature a DC Comics villain. Or maybe more than one. That’s what co-writer Michael Dougherty told SCI FI Wire in an interview on the set of his next film, Trick ‘r Treat.

Does this mean it will be like Superman II where Superman fights the three convicted felons from Krypton?  In any case, this is great news, as it seems there will be another Superman movie, despite disappointing box office from the Bryan Singer directed blockbuster.

Two Enterprise Captains in Trek XI?

Most non-casual Star Trek buffs know that Capt. Kirk wasn’t the first man to command the bridge of the first USS Enterprise. In the original, rejected pilot episode of The Original Series, the legendary ship’s captain was Christopher Pike. The captainship became the domain of William Shatner’s character for the pilot remake and the rest of the series, but the Pike character was revived in the episode “The Menagerie”, establishing Pike was the Enterprise’s first captain. Actually, the hardcore fans doubtlessly remember that the animated Star Trek series of the ’70s named a predecessor of Pike’s, Robert April. However, that character, and the animated series in general, are not considered Star Trek canon. This sort of background history becomes important now that a pre-TOS film is on the way.

Three Names for Two-Face

With The Dark Knight just two months away from the commencement of principle photography, the rumor mill has been working overtime churning out possible contenders for the key role of Harvey Dent, the Gotham City district attorney doomed to become the villainous Two-Face. A slew of thesps have been rumored for the part over the last year, including Ryan Phillippe, Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber. None of them appear to be “The One.”

Star Trek XI | More Info

Here’s more info on the new Star Trek movie.  Looks like it’s going to be a prequel, which usally can be done pretty well.  Look at the Star Wars and Batman franchises.  Even the Jack Ryan character from the Tom Clancy books-to-movies had a prequel with “Sum of All Fears”.

Here’s a movie rumor I picked up on the Blogosphere.  I haven’t seen Casino Royale yet, but I hear this cat is pretty darn good.  I saw Craig in The Road To Perdition, and was quite impressed.  Layer Cake really got him noticed for Bond, though.
